Today the Bulgarian civil movement Protestna mreja (Protest Network) send a letter to the highest officials of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), in order to “remind in detail about the success story of Mr. Peevski (please, see the attached document) and to request your position on his nomination for MEP”. According to all sociological researches before the EP elections on May 25 in Bulgaria, the controversial Bulgarian businessman and politician Delyan Peevski will be elected as MEP from the ALDE group.

Dear Sir Graham Watson, dear Mr. Verhofstadt, dear Mr. Moroza-Rasmussen,
Protestna mreja (Protest Network) is a non-formal civil society structure, born by the longest antigovernment protest in Europe - the DANSwithme movement in Bulgaria.
It started on 14th June 2013 after the appointment of the controversial businessman and politician Delyan Peevski as a head of the national security agency (DANS) and is still taking place every day at the streets of Sofia with the demanding for resignation of the government of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), the Movement for Rights and Freedom (DPS) and the pro-Russian far-right party Ataka.
At the European Parliament elections on 25th May 2014 the same unsuccessful national security director and a current MP Mr. Delyan Peevski will run for MEP at a second position in the list of MRF (DPS). According to all of the preelection sociology surveys it will guarantee him a sit in the European Parliament as a member of the Group of ALDE.

14 facts about Delyan Peevski, which you will never hear from the controlled and dependent politicians, media, sociologists and commentators
In the crooked political and media environment in Bulgaria, amongst fear and autocensorship, many government supporters explain why there is nothing wrong a political party to nominate person such as Delyan Peevski for a member or the European Parliament. They even claim that it is democratic.
However, we believe that the nomination of the 33-year old businessman, who described himself as a “successful young man” and does not own almost anything according to the official documents, is a symbol of the political degradation and façade democracy in Bulgaria.
We consider this nomination not only a provocation, but even more - this is the revenge of the current government and its internal and external circles of support against the protesting citizens.
As citizens, who are protesting since 14th June 2013 for the resignation of the Bulgarian government we would like to remind the facts about Mr. Peevski, which are deliberately omitted by the dependent politicians, journalists, sociologists, commentators and “civil society” organizations.
Fact 1:
Peevski is a former deputy minister and a current member of the Parliament who arrogantly evades the obligation to declare his property, using the loophole in the legislation which does not provide penalties for it. Even this single fact makes him unworthy of being nominated for any public position in a state where the rule of law is respected.
Fact 2:
In 2000, the 20-year old Delyan and his mother Iren Krasteva do something which is known by the jurists as “non-fulfillment of a preliminary contract for a property sale” and is called by the deceived vendee a “property fraud”. You will not hear about this fact by the majority of the Bulgarian media - they are avoiding such topics, although the documents on the case are public from far back.
Fact 3:
The youngest deputy minister in our history and member of the board of the largest harbor in Bulgaria assumed the mentioned duties without the required university degree. Later on he obtained it without attending any classes… Besides all of the flaws of our public environment this is scandalous, to say the least. Only few Bulgarian media reacted on the issue, but the majority keeps silence. In the civilized countries you quit the politics forever after such a scandal.
Fact 4:
In 2009 a bomb explodes next to the black SUV of the successful young man. The author of the assault is unrevealed and we have no idea why the 29-years old successful businessman could be targeted with such methods.
Fact 5:
The media group of Peevski and mother does not keep any ethical standards for years ago.
He does not own those media officially but call them “my publications” and justifies their policy as “competitive behaviour”. The rating of Bulgaria in all the international indices of press freedom falls down but many people and journalists ignore that fact - either due to disgust or fear. At the same time, his media weapons continue their mission to discredit every inconvenient opponent.
Fact 6:
In the last Parliamentary mandate (2009 - 2013) Peevski was absent from over 80% of the sessions although his MP electronic card apparently had voted at almost 100% of the polls. The only law he proposed in the current Parliament - the one aiming to limit the activity of the offshore companies, became a by-word for an imitation of a fight against corruption.
Fact 7:
The appointment of Peevski as a head of the national security agency (DANS) provoked unprecedented reaction in the civil society and the political and diplomatic circles, including a common declaration of the ambassadors of France and Germany, which apparently is not a problem for the government coalition. It seems that this government follows a business plan but not a political programme.
Fact 8:
After dismissing Peevski in 2007 the former prime minister and current leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and PES Sergey Stanishev said that he has not possess the required moral virtues to be a deputy minister. Five years later he told his MPs: “We elect Peevski a head of DANS or our government is down”…
Fact 9:
The investigations about the property of Peevski drown into the media silence. Half of the real estate properties which he uses are officially owned by the offshore company Nata Ltd registered at the British Virgin islands. There is no comment in the majority of the media. Fear, censorship or autocensorship? Probably all of it.
Fact 10:
The head of the government press office Ani Dimitrova refuses to comment her links with a firm owned by the same offshore company. Mrs. Dimitrova is a former employee of Peevski’s mum and publisher of newspapers with unknown funding.
Fact 11:
In January 2014 the French-German ARTE TV attempted to record footage of hotel Berlin which is known as Peevski’s headquarters. The TV crew was stopped by police and in one hour their personal details reached from the police car to the superiors of the hired cameraman who were requested the recorded footage to be deleted. The Prime Minister Oresharski committed to investigate this abuse by the Ministry of internal, but we are still waiting for the results. We ask: who actually controls the police?
Fact 12:
In 2008 a scandal within the then government coalition brought to light an attempt of Peevski and his encirclement to exercise pressure on the then state owned tobacco company “Bulgartabac”. The same people also used to lobby for a gambling license of a company with unknown offshore owner. Recently the owner became clear - the same offshore company which owns the real estate properties inhabited by Peevski.
Fact 13:
The name of Peevski is mentioned few times in the monitoring report of the European Commission from January 2014. This is the most negative report on Bulgaria to be published so far!
Fact 14:
In June 2013 for few days Peevski was authorized a highest level of access to a classified information of Bulgaria, EU and NATO in his capacity of a head of DANS.
Based on all the abovementioned, the only explanation for the Peevski’s MEP nomination is evident - a revenge to the citizens who crowded the squares on 14th June 2013 and requested responsibility by the government.
Peevski is a symbol of the mafia who penetrates the highest levels of the government in Bulgaria!
