Just a few days after the release of the worst EU Commission monitoring report on Bulgaria’s progress, where the question “WHO?” was asked on international level, representatives of Bulgarian Protest Network and university students are visiting Brussels to let Europe hear the voice of Bulgarian protest community.
Bulgarian authorities, who govern the country temporarily, don’t go to Brussels, but when they do, nobody accepts them. The Bulgarian Protest Network doesn’t posses their positions and resources, but does posses the facts that unmask the corruption and political connections. The aim of the Bulgarian protest activists’ visit is to inform the European institutions about what is happening in Bulgaria – media monopoly, political corruption and how protest activists see the solution of these problems.
On Tuesday, 28th January 2014, at 2 p.m. CET, a joint press conference on the media freedom in Bulgaria will take place in the press conference room of the European Parliamant in Brussels. The main participants will be representatives of the European Initiative for Media Pluralism, the Bulgarian Protest Network and Members of the European Parliament.
European Initiative for Media Pluralism activists and MEPs will stand along with representatives of The Bulgarian Protest network in support of the protests of Bulgarian citizens against the political corruption and in protection of democracy and media freedom in the country.
At the press conference on 28 January the MEPs Tanja Fajon (Socialists and Democrats) and Rui Tavares (Greens/ EFA), together with Giovanni Lorenzo Marsili and Giovanni Melogli from the European Initiative for Media Pluralism will insist on political undertakings against the monopoly of the Delian Peevski on political life in Bulgaria.
